Charcoal and Pencil Drawing Portrait Studio
Welcome to Charcoal and Pencil Drawing Portrait Studio
Christa 18"x24" oil on canvas
Thank you for visiting my portrait studio. My objective is to provide services while pursuing my true passion of creating portraits. Whether I'm painting, drawing, or even sculpting, all my works stems from charcoal and pencil drawing. It is the foundation and the most important step for all my processes. Hence the title of my website.
Portraiture have always been my foremost interest because I find the human faces the most beautiful and complex of all genres. I enjoy the challenges I encounter and learning new things everyday about the human form. The human face itself is made up of so many complex, interesting subtle forms and textures. A plane on the face can be smooth, rough, curvy, hard-edged, soft-edged, you name it. But I'm particularly drawn to the eyes because there are always so much going on in that small area of the face.
Whether I am painting in oil paints, charcoal, pencil drawing, or sculpting, I like to always try and depict something more than the mere likeness of the subject, but also capture the personality and illusion of three dimensional life to the two dimensional surface of the canvas or the paper. I focus on introducing life-like forms with expressive brushstrokes and colours to my portraits rather than photo-realism. My goal is to have my audiences feel the subject's presence as they physically view my portrait paintings.
I mostly use Oils and Charcoals. I use only the archival high quality materials (Strathmore papers, Frederix canvases , Windsor & Newton oil paints, and General or Derwent charcoals) that can be treasured forever. I occasionally paint in watercolors as well, so if you are interested in any other medias besides Oils and Charcoals (including watercolors, pastels etc.), feel free to let me know and I would be happy to accomodate to your desires.
Navigate through my website and see what I have to offer and feel free to contact me through the Contact page should you have any questions or comments. I also appreciate criticisms as it's what have always helped me most to grow and learn as an artist. Often times when an artist have been working on a painting or a pencil drawing for a long period of time, it can become very difficult to judge his own works and the views from other perspectives can be extremely helpful.
If you are an art collector, or looking to commission a portrat painting, or charcoal pencil portraits, please look on my "Commission" page. It describes all the how to process/directions for commissioning a portrait along with the pricing informations.
I have had clients getting portraits done for different reasons. It seems like portraits can make great gifts for the loved ones or a private collection for themselves. It is the most rewarding and humbling experience to me when people tells me stories about how my portrait have brought tears to their eyes.
I will always be updating this website with more and more contents as I create new oil portraits or charcoal drawings. Feel free to subscribe to this website by filling out the subscription form in the "Subscribe" page if you would like to be informed of all my updates and visit often.
Always feel free to contact me with any questions/comments or suggestions you may have through the Contact page on this website. Thanks again for visiting my Charcoal and Pencil Drawing Portrait Studio!
