Portrait Drawing Lessons From the Masters
Drawing lessons I've received from the masters have been the most beneficial for me. I have practiced a lot of figure drawing in the classes and the workshops but I have learned the most by copying the master portrait drawings from books. I have copied countless portrait charcoal drawings of John Singer Sargent, Ilya Repin, Valentin Serov, Nicolai Fechin, to name a few. Observing their works carefully at the museums also still helps me a lot.
You probably will notice how much I am inspired by them if you were to observe a charcoal and pencil drawing I did. Hopefully it looks kind of like theirs too:) Portrait is my favorite subject to draw. I enjoy capturing likenesses and personalities of my sitters. The eyes are my foremost focus and interest when I am drawing the Portraits. Can't really explain why but just find myself always drawn to the eyes and working mostly on them.
