Face Drawing Step by Step

I started this face drawing by lightly sketching in the general forms and big shapes.

After I felt comfortable with the lay-in or the under structure, I began placng the feature, such as placing the eye on top of the lay-in as if a sculptor would insert the eye in the eye socket modelling in clay.

I continued the same procedure as previous step, placing features on top of the under-structure have established. Placing the nose here.

Same thing here..placing more features over the under-structure.

Kept introducing more features, placing the hair here for example. Notice how I did not really do any lay-ins for the hair or pre-determin the under-structure for it. I usually just let the hair flow naturally from the solidly formed head without much planning.

Some more hair.
