Watercolor and Oil Painting Porfolio
Here are some of my watercolor and Oil painting samples.

Painting is so much fun I can do it all day and all night and never get tired sometimes. I'm sure lot of artists out there can relate to that as well. Because unlike other kinds of arts, such as performing arts or music, we painters can do it all day long and not get so tired, since all we do is basically sit there and move our arms. Lot of times I would go to a cafe and just spend all day sketching people in watercolor.I got a great watercolor kit I want to share with all of you. I carry it around in my pocket wherever I go and it is really compact, convenient and easy to use. Check it out here. I always like to paint from life using the direct oil painting approach, also known as the Alla-Prima method. The reason I paint that way is mainly because I feel I gain the most by practicing in that manner, without rendering or worrying about making things look so smooth and polished. The direct painting approach really forces me to look past the details and put down the marks that really would matter, or make a difference in the progression of the piece. I try to follow that "Three looks and one mark, not three marks and one look" concept. But spontaneity is also very important to me, so I try not to think too much or be too decisive before making a mark. I believe thinking too much of the technical aspects can get in the way of creating good art. Whether it's music, performing arts, or visual arts, the best arts within my opinion that I have witnessed always seemed to have one thing in common. They all seemed effortlessly done, but demonstrated great techniques without even trying. What I paint is not as important to me as How I paint. I like painting almost anything. My favorite though, is the portrait and figurative subjects as you can see. I am more concerned about the brushworks, color usage, composition, and overall look & feel of an oil painting, which kind of becomes a performance piece in a way. My primary objective as of now is just keeping up with lots of practice, always seeking to improve, honing my craftmanship. Because I really feel that the level of skill a person can acquire in this kind of direct oil painting approach, is infinite. I argue that there has not been or will be anyone who will surpass the skill of John Singer Sargent, at least not for a long long time.
