Rose Pencil Drawings
Rose pencil drawings are difficult to do because you are not using any colors. As colors are what makes flowers beautiful and unique, it can be hard to capture its characters wth just black and white. My approaches for doing a rose drawing is pretty much the same as the approaches on portraits or figures. The artist first sketched in lightly laying in the general form, keeping in mind the composition, roundness of the forms, details, and placement /overall look and feel etc. The artist uses the same method as drawing the head or the human figure.

Kept laying in working down the stems and the leaves.adding features on top of the lightly laid in understructure. the artist goes ahead with this part only when he is sure and feels confindent about the solidity of the understructure or the lay-in.Because he consider it important to have a good start and believes that one cannot have a good finish without the good start. This concept is not necessarily true, as it IS possible to complete nce rose-pencil-drawings without a good start ,but one may need to go through series of fixing and correcting ,consuming a lot more time than if he had had a good start.

After he felt comfortable with the lay-in, he began hitting the accents. and add soe dark accents and features, the details that make up the flower. The artist controls the dark and light with simple pressing and releasing of the point of his charcoal pencil.

Continued the process working down to the leaves and the stems, adding features, working on values, lights and darks using the full value range.cleaing up and polishing the rose pencil drawings. This is just a sketch and not a finished rose drawing.

He continued polishing and rendering the forms, adding more details ,etc. The artist does best he can, with limited time. controlling his pencil, rolling side to side pressing and releasing to control and vary the darks and lights.
Same thing. continued polishing and rendering.to th efinish. The artist did not fully render the piece and made it a quick sketch as he does with all hs other rose pencil drawings. This was just a demo done to show people and not his personal finished work, which would take the artist weeks. Sometimes the artist prefers the use of coloured pencils for his rose pencil drawings and flower drawings, and recommend it for everytone who like to draw but wants to draw the flowers and capture the colors as well. It is important to not just be able to do one kind of drawings but be ale to do many other different kinds of charcoal drawings, whether it is of figures, human heads, dragon, flowers, etc, etc. It is important to be versatile and become a draftsman ,not just a person that does the one kind of drawings.
It is a great practice for any artists to do quick sketches, whether you are using lines or lots of values as this artist does. Value sketching is a great way to train ones eye. If one becomes comfortable with drawing with values, he would be able to do rose pencil drawings more quickly and efficiently.
